Hello,

First, your plugin is awesome, great job.

I have a small problem of cache while using the fonction mygrid.trigger(‘reloadGrid’). My browsers are configured to not cache element. My PHP script had header no-cache.

I’ve a got an action to update a particular row (done on server side with ajax call) and then i use the mygrid.trigger(‘reloadGrid’) to refresh grid with the new data.

Sometimes data are not updated in grid but are in database. I’ve to refresh (F5) page to see changes…

My grid is populate with xml so i’ve tried to modify populate() fonction with adding the cache:false parameters to the ajax call. Not effect, sometimes my data are not ‘”really” refreshed…!

If you have an idea ?

Hi Laurent,
In my pages I specify in the url option:
…
url:’mypage.php?nd=’+new Date().getTime(),
…
This prevent the caching.
I think that this trick should be added in the jqGrid.
Please tell me if you continue to have problems after adding a new Date.getTime()

Hi Tony,

Yes i forgot to say in my message that to each request, i’ve a had 2 parameters to prevent cache as you present them in your examples :

– q = id of the request unique
– nd = new date as mentionned

Even with this 2 parameters, sometimes the cache is not refreshed.

I’ve notice with logs that when you use trigger(‘reloadGrid’), the generated requested has exactly the sames values as first grid load. Especially with new date parameter.

1st request :
http://localhost/index.php?q=1&nd=1196094381437&page=1&rows=10&sidx=nom&sord=asc

2nd request (after doing trigger(‘reloadGrid’)) :
http://localhost/index.php?q=1&nd=1196094381437&page=1&rows=10&sidx=nom&sord=asc

Seems strange…like new date is not updated before calling populate (line 800) or during ajax call (line 476). Pager options are updated…

Ok,
I figured it.
Download the last revision from:
http://www.trirand.com/jqgrid/js/jquery.jqGrid.js

You do not need to specify in the url new Date.
Please let me known for the result

Hi Tony,

Sorry but the problem still the same with the last version of your plugin.
The _nd parameter is now changing on each ajax request but no effect…

Exemple of my script :

jQuery(#element).jqGrid({ // grid definition, url, ... })
function action(){ id = jQuery("#element").getSelectedRow(); jQuery.get(); // ajax call to my server (update data), no return data; jQuery("#element").trigger("reloadGrid"); // refresh grid after ajax call }

I’m using XML for my grid populated by a MySQL database, it’s based on your example…I don’t know what i’m missing…

It’s strange because, when i use this script for search in grid (like your example), i do not have this kind of problem, the data in the grid are updated.

Aha,
Here is your problem (it is actually not a problem):
function action(){
id = jQuery(“#element”).getSelectedRow();
jQuery.get(); // ajax call to my server (update data), no return data;
jQuery(“#element”).trigger(“reloadGrid”); // refresh grid after ajax call
}
You make two ajax call – the first is to update data and the second is to retrieve it. Since the calls are asynchrounus it is not known which is the first – the update or the read.
To resolve the problem you should make something like this:
function action(){
id = jQuery(“#element”).getSelectedRow();
jQuery.get(…,async:false,…); // ajax call to my server (update data), no return data;
jQuery(“#element”).trigger(“reloadGrid”); // refresh grid after ajax call
}

Or the clear method is:
You should known if the data is updated with success from the server – i.e in your get function you should return some information on what is happen – if the update is ok then call reload grid.

Tony,

you’re right, i forgot one of the “a” of AJAX : asynchrone…
but instead of using synchrone mode (freezing web browser), i’m using the success parameter/function of jQuery.ajax().

And now grid is refreshed when i’m sure previous action has be done.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your response to my previous post – I am now having problems with internet explorer – the following code works a treat in Firefox! but does not refresh correctly in explorer 7!

Any help with this will be much appreciated.

Once again works fine in firefox but not in internet explorer – however if i hit the page refresh button – it loads the grid correctly. Any ideas?

I do not have idea, but could you please try to pass to the ajax url a additional parameter new Date().getTime() instead of cache: false
