Tony,

Sometimes I would like to present a grid to a user that initially is closed and can be openen by clicking the caption (to delay the ajax call). I can build something on top of your grid but it would be nicer if there was some kind of a option telling the grid not to open initiatlly and only fire the ajax call when the user wants to see the grid. Is this on your list for the near future?

Hi Ton,

One possible solution is to define the initial datatype to clientSide. This way the grid loads without any data. Thus you can define a button something like
$(“#mybutton).click(function() {
$(“#mygrid”).setGridParam({datatype:”xml”}).triger(“reloadGrid”);
$(this).hide();
}
The only problem is that the grid is not initially closed, but I do not think that this solution is applicable to you.

Since the grid is going to more and more event driven I think that one possible solution is to add event when the button at header is clicked – the rest is to make it hidden by initialization. I will think what I can do

Hi.

I have a different approach because my application is for an intranet I just used there Ip and point it to a temp table, the table is manipulated by ajax. if the table with the ip is empty then the grid is empty

but may be you can use the one below although I havent tested the “setUrl” yet.

on your grid set the ff.
-> url: ‘server.php?mode=blank’;

then just change the url via setUrl before calling the ff
-> .triger(“reloadGrid”);

Just a note. In 3.2 setUrl is removed – instead use setGridParam({url:’myurl’});

I would like to echo the original request; it sure would be nice for my app to Set only a single option to have jqGrid start closed and with no data. One of my forms probably has 6 – 10 tables, few of which anyone wants to look at every time they come to this page (but still want to be able see all of them when they need to). Even if it did the Ajax to retrieve the data, I wouldn’t care much; it is really just starting closed that is importnat for me.

Hi Tony,
As every body else, I would like to know how can I do to load grids in “collapsed” position.
I have ten grids in a same page and it would by nice to present an kind of “resume” before going to details!
I hope you have the answer.
