hi, i think a formatter for shortening displayed text in grid cell is nice
currently there is none so i have to create custom formatter for it
what's the best way to do it?

The easiest solution, if you are using IE, is to put
.ui-jqgrid tr.jqgrow td{
thanks but text-overflow: ellipsis is not supported in firefox
maybe integrate jTruncate as a formatter so using it would be easy
i also wish to use multiple formatters for a column
something like … formatters:{{name, options: {}}[,{name, options:{}}] … [,{name, options:{}}]}
in colModel
