I have the following code which gets a JSON result set back from a WCF service for exporting to Excel.

I think that this is not related to jqGrid, but rather to your server side code.

This was my initial assessment as well, however my server side code is definitely returning the results.
The clear test if this is a jqGrid issue is to try without using jqGrid
$(“#mybutton”).click(function(){
$.ajax({
….
});
