Hello,

Is there way to configure a html select searchable on dataInit, it can open a another jqgrid defined in dataInit – just as using a subgrid. This would be extremely useful, there are many times in applications this is essential.

Something like this example:

General idea would
Cell would be editable – control will be text or select , when user clicks in the cell, it would the grid defined in dataInit and user can select a row, it would set id/value defined.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is already similar solution here

Having this code we can maybe reconstruct the it to be used as combo grid like in the demo shown from you.

Hello Kris,

We apologize for the late answer.

We where able to create a experimental function comboGrid (all changes are in github) in which we implement some of your requested features.

Here is the demo – the combo grid is bound to ShipName edit field and for the demo purpose it returns the country name.

The function has 3 parameters – the input element; options which contain data parameter (can be a string or array) and return field – a field which should be returned when the user press enter or select with a click; the third parameter is a grid object parameter with colModel and etc.

There are some small problems, but I hope this will help you and other to use the grid as combo.

Thank you!. I apologize I missed this. This looks very promising.

Only problem I see that the return field is preset. Is it possible to may have a function that can be customized onSelect, this is because sometimes similar to select id need to be set and value displayed to the user.

Can the combo grid be set then the edittype is select – this is where it would be extremely helpful.
1. When the select is empty that is when user selects to open the dropdown, combo grid shows and user selects and it sets the id and value of edittype select element and saves in case of cell edit

2. when the select has a value selected, then somehow need to pass the id to combo grid so when it load it will show in combo grid as selected.

About the select – we do not have tested it on select, but I will see what we can do and will replay ASAP.
