There's a new feature in jqgrid 3.6 that allows full control over the ajax requests to the server but my success function is never called:
jQuery(“#tester”).jqGrid({
success is a call back function. do you have an URL for your ajax post? and if yes what are you sending back form your server?

Yes I have a url for the Ajax post and it returns everything to the grid successfully from the server.

What is your datatype parameter? If it is local, xmlstring or jsonstring this will not work.

Found the problem… nothing to do with jqgrid.
