1. For the sorting – check your server side code. In this case jqGrid
accept the data from server and there is nothing to do more.
2. Use this logic server side:

The comma at the last item is not valid item. Maybe this should not work
in IE6 too
How look like your xml?
This is not enought. You must set the other components for the
xmlREader. Also refer to docs.
This is not conflict, but feture :). Whe cellediting is enabled, multi select is disabled, and onSelectRow too. I hope to have this in progress.
Your post does not contain minimal information.
Take care of variable _serach it is true or false. Download the exmples to
chack how to configure this in PHP.

Currently this will not work, but instead this have sence. Have do not change the code for the subgrids and maybe it is time to do that.
