But the problem with that div still still stands on ie7.

I tested jqGrid without the height and it seems to work flawlessly. Could that be a bug?

PS: nobody would simulate IE7 on the page willingly, but it will be used only on the intranet and since the default behaviour of IE8 is to render pages form the intranet in compat. view with IE7 standards, that could be a problem.
