Is there an option/ trick available to set width for the column in colModel so “that it fits to the size of the maximum content in it”.?

Here i do the following:
autowidth = true
shrinkToFit = true
in colModel setup, i consider the total width = 1000 and divide this value proportional to each column of the grid and has worked well
