Tony gives the link – after making changes to jquery.jqGrid.min.js (or jquery.jqGrid.src.js) I don't face this behavior at Safari.

Why don't you set colspan property of th like this?

$([your th]).attr('colspan',3);

I've got any single or double quotes in my data without any problems with the view.
