Just tested and it works fine. Please be a sure you load the jqGrid files. This error exactley point to this problem

Moreover you can use some tricks which can be used succefully in your scenario.

After this select the following items New in version 3.2 = > Initial hidden grid.

Note that initially we do not made a request.

yYou will need to understand that the grid does not support a search at your end (server)

You will need to write your own code at server to perform the search.

We have a examples in PHP, but you can easy understand and translet it in ASP.

Also you may need to look at the demo files which can be downloaded from the Download section.
