If you have normal check box- not in grid – how do you change the style?
We do not do something special. We just get the value with val() function and post it to the server via ajax.
Also IMHO I think that this is a browser problem. Is this in IE? Try with FF or vice versa.
You can do this. One possible solution is to use formatter (link or showlink)

And if this does not do the job for you you can use custom formatter
