Perhaps if I could just turn off select row feature that would stop it from checking the checkbox.

hmm ok it occurs to me that perhaps those are just the first three and perhaps the only three parameters.

yup. that works too, I have a couple of grids on my page and want to hide the headers selectively but this still works.
