Solved it… It was that my grid.locale-en.js was not updated.

I am unable to reproduce the issue on jsFiddle and I noticed that my that.p.ops in the JqGrid 4.8.2 is a array of strings of just the text compared to the array of objects that is in 4.6.0. If that is anything
